On Thursday October 19th, members of the communities of Shillelagh, Tinahely, Aughrim, Woodenbridge and Arklow gathered at Lawless Hotel, Aughrim to participate in a workshop to discuss the potential development of a recreational trail along the valleys connecting the towns and villages of Shillelagh, Tinahely, Aughrim, Woodenbridge and Arklow.
110 members of the Wicklow community attended this workshop and guest speaker Padraig Philbin of Mayo County Council offered great insight into their experience on the setting up of the Western Greenway in Mayo.
There was a huge level of feedback from the communities of County Wicklow to this recreational trail initiative and participants at this workshop gave most valuable and informative feedback on the concept of a recreational trail for Wicklow under the following headings:
· Overall reaction to concept
· Benefits of such a trail; and
· Possible concerns.
This workshop feedback is now being examined by the team of recreational planners lead by Roughan & O’Donovan Engineers , Tourism Development Intl and Brady Shipman Martin so that it can fully inform the final Feasibility Study which is due to be completed by the year-end.
Wicklow County Council is most grateful to the members of the local Wicklow Community who attended this workshop and Wicklow County Council is open to receiving further feedback on the proposed recreational trail up until Friday November 10th 2017.
