Arklow MD and Library presents winners of the European Elections Competition with their prizes

On Tuesday evening, 28th May, Arklow Municipal District in partnership with Arklow Library were pleased to welcome some of the winning entrants to a prize giving event in the Arklow Municipal District Council Chamber.

During the month of May, two competitions were held to highlight the upcoming European Elections; children under 8 years of age were asked to draw and colour a flag from another EU member while children over the age of 9 completed a quiz based on the upcoming European elections. Funding for the competition and prizes was provided by the Department of Foreign Affairs

All individual entries from the entrants are on display in Arklow Library and Arklow Municipal District Offices. Each entrant took home a prize for their participation.

Welcoming the children, Cllr. Tommy Annesley, Cathaoirleach of Arklow Municipal District expressed his thanks to all the children for entering the competition, “I would like to commend all those who participated on the colourful display of entries. We acknowledge the support from the Department of Foreign Affairs in allocating funding to the District to run the competition, which was aimed at raising the awareness of the upcoming European elections. It was fantastic to see the staff from the library and municipal district working in partnership to hold such an event.”

Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Emer O’Gorman commented, “This was a fun but educational competition aimed at our younger citizens, and was a great way of highlighting the upcoming European elections”. 

In addition to the prize for participation, each participant received a goodie bag with thanks to Lidl.
