Wicklow County Council is delighted to announce that our first Climate Action Week is taking place this year, running from Monday 14th – Sunday 20th October. Our Climate Action Week 2024 will feature a number of events covering a range of environmental topics, and will help highlight a number of projects that have been highlighted by the Wicklow County Council Climate Action Plan 2024-2029.

Details of the plan can be found under the Climate Action and Biodiversity section of the website. Climate Action remains a priority for Wicklow County Council, with a strong focus placed on community engagement and the implementation of the Actions within our Climate Action Plan.

Events taking place during Climate Action Week include the following, with booking required for some. Details of these can be found on Eventbrite.com, by searching for Climate Action Events in Wicklow.

• The Mount Lucas Energy Truck, which will be located on the Prom in Bray for the full week where members of the public can walk in and are welcome to find out more about Retrofits, Insulation, Air Tightness, Solar PV, Heat Pumps and Ventilation Systems. Darina Currid from KORE will be available on Monday 14^th October from 12pm and on Thursday 17^th October to discuss the One Stop Shop Grant Process.
• Wicklow County Council in partnership with Bolt will offer two free 15 minute trips for new and existing users on the use of e-bikes in Bray (subject to availability).
• Tuesday 15^th October: Creative Climate Workshop, Wicklow hosted by Greenhouse Culture.
• Tuesday 15^th October, 7pm -  9pm*: A Climate Action Event in Clermont House with various speakers, where topics such as Dark Skies, Coding Offshore Wind, E-Mobility Schemes, Oysters establishment and Nature Based Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems will be featured.
• Wednesday 16^th October: A free online event co-hosted by Wicklow County Council and the IFA, in partnership with Teagasc and Tirlán. This information-focused webinar focuses on reducing farm costs and details on how to avail of community support.
• Thursday 17^th October, 10am – 4pm*: Gardening Course for Biodiversity and Climate Change in Greystones Library with Aoife Munn.
• Friday 18^th October, 7pm – 9.30pm*: A Climate Action Event in Clermont House with various speakers, where topics such as Climate Effect on Biodiversity, Gardening for Biodiversity, Nature Based Drainage Systems and Anaerobic Digestion and will be featured.
• Friday 18^th October: Climate Culture Café in Wicklow, hosted by Greenhouse Culture.
• Saturday 19^th October, 10am – 4pm*: Gardening Course for Biodiversity and Climate Change in Blessington Library with Aoife Munn.
• Saturday 19^th October, 10am – 1pm*:  Climate Action Arklow Forum meeting in the Arklow Bay Hotel. This event will be a dynamic platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing and action planning. Come together with like-minded individuals to explore Biodiversity, Renewable Energy, Transport and Innovative ways to combat climate change.
• Various events across our library service, including two Drop in Clinics on the Wicklow County Council’s Biodiversity Action Plan and Public Consultation Phase, taking place in Arklow and Wicklow Libraries, courses on Irish Garden Birds and ECO-UNESCO Fast Fashion workshops across the library service.

Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr. Paul O’Brien said, “We are proud to launch our first Climate Action Week. This will help to further the progress made on delivering on Climate Action within our communities, following the publication of our first ever Climate Action Plan. There are many ways to get involved in supporting Climate Action and the programme of various events being organised offer something for the young and old, for the climate advocates and those who have a passive interest”.

Emer O’Gorman, Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council added, “Wicklow County Council’s Climate Action Week is a great opportunity for us to showcase a number of specific projects contained within our five year Climate Action Plan through various educational events. This will allow the Council to further lead and engage with our communities on adapting County Wicklow as a Climate resilient place to live.”

Wicklow County Council has the following public consultations currently taking place, which are relevant to Climate Action Week:

• Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) Policy and Development Guidance - closing date Friday 18^th October at 4.30pm
• Draft Wicklow Noise Action Plan 2024 - 2028 - closing date Friday 18^th October at 5pm
• County Wicklow Biodiversity Action Plan 2025-2030: Pre-Draft Public Consultation – closing date Monday 4^th November at 4pm
