On Friday, 14th February 2025, Wicklow County Council signed a contract with Coffey Construction (Ireland) Ltd for the construction of the Delgany to Blacklion (Chapel Road) Pedestrian and Cycle Improvement Scheme. DBFL Consulting Engineers have also been appointed by the council to provide technical support throughout the construction phase.
This upgrade project will enhance the final two sections of Chapel Road, extending from the Chapel Road/Convent Road Roundabout north to Blacklion Manor Road at Seagreen. The improvements will include upgraded footpaths, the addition of cycle track facilities and enhancements for vehicular traffic, which will involve the realignment and widening of Chapel Road.
Coffey Construction (Ireland) Ltd is set to begin construction work on a phased basis in the coming weeks.
Cllr. Tom Fortune, Cathaoirleach of Greystones Municipal District, highlighting the importance of ongoing investment said “I’m delighted as Cathaoirleach of Greystones Municipal District to witness the signing of this contract and to see this project progress to the construction stage which is a substantial investment for the District.”
Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Emer O’Gorman, welcoming the signing of the contracts stated “it is great to see this project taking another step forward towards its delivery. This project when completed will see a major improvement for road users including pedestrians and cyclists from Delgany to Blacklion and will greatly enhance connectivity in the area.”
