Bray Municipal District Cathaoirleach's Reception for Olympic Athletes
On Tuesday 19th November, Bray Municipal District held a Cathaoirleach’s Reception to honour and recognise the achievements of Dania Moorehouse and Lara Gillespie at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Elected members of Bray Municipal District joined Cathaoirleach Councillor Dermot O’Brien in paying tribute to the two athletes.
Cathaoirleach of Bray Municipal District, Cllr Dermot O’Brien, noted that “It was truly an honour as Cathaoirleach to join with elected members and officials of Bray Municipal District to host the reception for our two Olympians Daina Moorehouse and Lara Gillespie. Both of these local young women are a credit to our community because they represent everything that is worth celebrating. They show dedication, determination and a desire to succeed which is beautifully balanced by a very grounded and grateful appreciation for their families, friends, community, coaches and supporters. We were delighted to acknowledge these two wonderful role models and we have no doubt that we will be celebrating with Daina and Lara again as we anticipate the next generation of boxers and cyclists who will follow in their footsteps.”
District Manager, Lorraine Gallagher, highlighted the achievements of Lara and Daina. She stated “It is only right and fitting to honour the achievements of both Daina and Lara and their dedication to their respective sports boxing and cycling which is an inspiration to us all. Both Daina and Lara must be commended for their sportsmanship and are role models for future sports stars showing what can be achieved through skill, hard work and dedication”.
The Cathaoirleach and the District Manager also paid tribute to Dania and Lara’s families and coaches for their ongoing support as the athletes pursue their goals. They concluded by wishing Dania and Lara every success in their future sporting endeavours.
Dania thanked everyone for the reception and expressed gratitude to the community and local schools for their support. Due to training commitments, Lara was unable to attend. Councillor Melanie Corrigan accepted the presentation on her behalf and read a statement from her.
