Targeted Inspection Programme on Private Rented Accommodation

Wicklow County Council in its role as Housing Authority is currently carrying out a Targeted Inspection Programme on private rented accommodation throughout the county in accordance with the objectives in ‘Housing for All’.

Inspectors will be checking for compliance with Housing (Standards for Rented Houses) Regulations 2019 – SI137 of 2019.

Any dwelling which is rented out may be subject to these Regulations. The dwelling does not need to be rented under any state sponsored scheme to be inspected.

Data on rented properties is provided to the local authority by the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) and un-registered properties may also be targeted for inspection. Un-registered properties will be referred to the RTB for enforcement action.

This programme is risk-based in the interests of consumer protection.

Inspectors carry Wicklow County Council identification.
