Wicklow County Council announces launch of the Biodiversity Working Group
Wicklow County Council is pleased to announce the successful launch of the Biodiversity Working Group (BWG), which took place last week at the historic Clermont House. This marks a significant step in the development of the Wicklow Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP), a key initiative aimed at protecting and enhancing the county's rich natural heritage.
The Biodiversity Working Groups role is to guide the development of the Wicklow Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP), by working with the public and key stakeholders to shape a plan that will protect and enhance Wicklow’s natural heritage.
Speaking about the event, Cllr. Paul O’Brien Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, said, "The launch of the Biodiversity Working Group is an exciting milestone for our county. This group will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Wicklow’s biodiversity, ensuring that our natural heritage is protected for generations to come."
Chief Executive Emer O’ Gorman added, "Wicklow is renowned for its stunning landscapes and vibrant wildlife, and it is our responsibility to ensure that these are preserved and restored. The Biodiversity Action Plan is not just about protecting the environment; it’s about creating a sustainable future for all of us who call Wicklow home."
As this launch coincides with Climate Action Week, Wicklow County Council encourages everyone to take the time to connect with nature, explore the county’s incredible biodiversity, and reflect on the role we all play in protecting our environment.
