Groundbreakers, innovators, mavericks...

Taking place on 24th June from 2pm in the Courthouse Tinahely, the next Wicklow Artist Salon features yet another exciting line-up of artists and cultural practitioners. This time panellists will explore the bold steps of establishing a new publishing house, creating a new festival, and operating two arts centres.

Why did they do that? What were the challenges? How do they sustain their projects...and themselves? And what advice do they have for others who might be thinking of...taking an initiative?

For this event, The Wicklow Artists Salon itself will be getting in the innovatory spirit by moving from Mermaid to a new host venue: the Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely. For those travelling from north Wicklow, bus transport to and from Tinahely is available. 

Moderated and facilitated by Kate Strain, Curator and Founding Director of Kunstverein Aughrim, the panel includes; Eleanor Phillips, a multidisciplinary artist, and co-founder and current director of Signal Arts Centre; Declan Meade, publisher of The Stinging Fly Press, and Garrett Keogh, an actor, writer and Founding Director of The Gap Arts Festival.

Everyone is welcome to come and join fellow artists for a pre salon chat (food not included) at 12:30pm - 2pm. Note, the venue has yet to be confirmed.

Artists based in noth Wicklow can avail of a special Wicklow Artists Salon Bus leaving the Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray, at 10.30 and returning at 6 pm. The fare is 7 Euro. The bus capacity is limited and so book now to avoid missing out.

The Wicklow Artists Salon is an artist-run event which explores important themes affecting artists and cultural practitioners. A friendly, inclusive space, each salon consists of a moderated discussion with invited guest artists which then opens into conversations with attendees. It aims to seed learning, interactions and perhaps collaborations among participants. The programme is curated by visual artist Joanna Kidney and writer Philip St John. Crucially, it is supported by Wicklow County Arts Office, Mermaid Arts Centre and The Courthouse, Tinahely.
