Wicklow County Council welcomes the recent Government announcement of funding for archaeological monuments in County Wicklow through the Community Monuments Fund 2024. The CMF aims to conserve, protect and promote monuments and historic sites, encouraging access and making them more climate resilient.
Six projects for Wicklow have been approved, representing a total investment of €202,246 for the county.
The successful projects are:
- Drumgoff Barracks - €12,159 for structural repairs and €29,889 for Conservation assessments
- Wicklow Mullinacuff Church - €90,678 for repair to medieval masonry
- Kilmacanogue (Old) Church - €30,000
- St. Kevin’s Church, Hollywood - €29,932 for conservation plans
- Wicklow Kilranelagh Graveyard - €9,588
Cllr. Aoife Flynn Kennedy Cathaoirleach, Wicklow County Council, stated: ‘I am delighted that six projects in County Wicklow are set to benefit from investment under the CMF 2024. Our archaeological heritage is a unique and valuable asset, and this funding will help us to better understand the conservation needs of our monuments and to carry out appropriate repairs to ensure they are protected for centuries to come for the benefit of local communities and visitors’.
Emer O'Gorman, Chief Executive, Wicklow County Council, added: ‘This latest funding is welcome news for Communities throughout Wicklow and will greatly support employment of specialist craftspeople and traditional skills practitioners and assist heritage led regeneration initiatives.’
The Community Monuments Fund (CMF) is funded by the National Monuments Service of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and is administered in Wicklow by the Heritage Office of Wicklow County Council.
