During visits, students are given a tour of the facility, they are shown the wide variety of Local Studies sources on offer and are provided with general guidance in their use. Tours can be tailored to the wishes and requirements of the teacher and students.
Reservations can be made by emailing Wicklowlocalstudies@wicklowcoco.ie or by phoning 087 8683724.
Resources:
The Wicklow Local Studies Collection holds an enormous amount of information about the history of the county, its people and places. This information is presented in a variety of formats which can be accessed in the library and online.
Teachers and students are encouraged to contact Local Studies for guidance and advice on their research or to request local history information. Students are welcome to contact Local Studies directly . Queries can be submitted by telephone, email or in person.
Junior Certificate Resources:
As part of our outreach activities, Wicklow Local Studies Library have developed a resource pack, for teachers and students, on the Junior Cycle History Class Based Assessments (CBAs). The pack is designed to support both teachers and students as they undertake work on their CBA projects. A link to all resources can be found below.
The resource pack is made up of six elements: A guide to Wicklow Local Studies Library, Student and Teacher guides to the CBA, a guide on How to do Historical Research (available in PowerPoint and PDF format) and a series of CBA Worksheets for students to record their activities and findings.
We hope that these support and guidance documents will be useful teaching resources and will help students in completing their CBA projects while also encourage them to explore Wicklow’s rich history for possible topics for the project.
