Wicklow County Council Library Service is excited to announce a new pilot initiative that offers blood pressure monitors for loan at all library branches. This program aims to support health awareness and self-care by making monitoring tools more accessible to the public.

Cathaoirleach for Wicklow County Council, Cllr Paul O’Brien said “This initiative underscores the library's commitment to well-being while maintaining clear boundaries regarding medical advice. Library personnel will not offer any guidance or recommendations regarding the use of the devices.”

This new service ensures that community members can check their blood pressure regularly, helping them to stay informed about their cardiovascular health.

“I’m thinking of people in rural communities who want to maintain a check on their blood pressure over a period of days” said Chief Executive, Emer O’Gorman “Making these devices available for borrowing can lead to improved outcomes and early detection of hypertension.”

Users are encouraged to borrow the monitors just as they would a book. Simple instructions will be included with each device to ensure ease of use.

Director of Services, Theresa O’Brien echoed Emer’s view, saying “This is a perfect example of libraries evolving to meet the needs of their communities, providing tools for health awareness reflects a deep commitment to public service.”
