Using Your Library

Learn how to join the library and and use the service to its full potential.

Joining the library

  • Joining the library is free!
  • Anyone can join the library – all you need to do is call into your library with Photo ID and proof of your address if you’re over 18 years of age.
  • Children and those under 18 years can join if accompanied by an adult with proof of address.
  • Alternatively you can apply online for a public library card. You can collect your library card in any Wicklow branch; just bring proof of your current address.

Using the library

  • Anyone can use the library space!
  • Library members can borrow 12 items at a time.
  • You will be given a loan period of three weeks.
  • You can renew items up to three times.
  • You can renew online, or you can contact your local branch via phone or email or in person.

Charges & fees

  • Joining the library, ordering and borrowing items is all completely free!
  • If an item from the adult library is lost or damaged the cost of the item must be paid in full.
  • Borrowing rights are blocked on accounts owing over €20.
  • Photocopying and printing facilities are available for a small fee. See in branch for details.

What can my library offer me?

  • Free use of public PCs & WiFi.
  • Study spaces and meeting rooms available in some branches.
  • Printing & photocopying with scanning available in most branches.
  • Online resources – eNewspapers, eMagazines, eBooks, online learning etc. 
  • Regular events, clubs and groups.
  • Local history research.
  • Books for all ages in all types, including audiobooks, large print and graphic novels.
  • Newspapers & magazines.
