Wicklow County Council is launching the pre-draft consultation for the County Wicklow Biodiversity Action Plan 2025-2030, running from September 23, 2024, to November 4, 2024. This initial public engagement phase is a crucial opportunity for residents, stakeholders, and organisations to share their insights and ideas, helping to shape a future where biodiversity thrives across the county.
Get Involved: Your Input Matters
In 2019, Wicklow County Council became the first local authority in Ireland to declare a biodiversity and climate-change emergency, recognising the urgent need to protect our natural environment. Now, we’re calling on you to take part in the development of our new Biodiversity Action Plan, which will guide local biodiversity efforts for the next five years.
We want to hear from as many voices as possible. Your submissions during this pre-draft stage will influence the direction of the plan, which aims to halt biodiversity loss in County Wicklow, align with Ireland’s 4th National Biodiversity Action Plan, and ensure sustainable conservation efforts across the county.
How to Participate
We encourage you to read our Discussion Paper (pdf below), which provides background information on biodiversity issues in Wicklow and outlines some potential areas for action.
We’ve made it easy for you to get involved and you can participate in one or all of the following ways:
- Submit your thoughts using the general submission form below. Alternatively submit your observations by email to climatepolicy@wicklowcoco.ie or via post to the Senior Executive Officer at Wicklow County Council, County Buildings, Station Road, Wicklow Town, A67 FW96.
- Complete the online survey here, providing feedback on the key biodiversity issues that matter to you.

The deadline for submission of comments or observations is 4pm on Monday 4th November.
