Wicklow County Council is reviewing its Litter Management Plan as required under Section 10 of the Litter Pollution Act 1997. Local authorities must adopt a plan and review it every three years.
The Litter Management Plan 2025 to 2028 has been developed, reviewing the previous plan, which ran from 2019 to 2024.
The Litter Management Plan defines litter, the composition of litter, issues that cause littering in County Wicklow and the responsibilities of the Local Authority, businesses and the public in preventing and controlling litter.
The plan sets out objectives for the prevention, control, disposal and awareness of litter under the four themes of:
- Enforcement and regulation
- Litter Prevention and Control
- Education and Awareness
- Community Engagement
The Litter Management Plan is a statutory plan. It was reviewed and updated by the Waste Management section and has been considered by the Wicklow County Council Climate Action, Biodiversity, Environment, Energy, Marine, Recreation and Amenity Strategic Policy Committee.
