Wicklow County Council, in partnership with National Transport Authority and Transport Infrastructure Ireland, are proposing to develop a Greenway as part of the proposed Kilmacanogue to Southern Cross Greenway scheme. The scheme aims to develop a new cyclist and pedestrian trail to improve and develop linkages for all vulnerable road users (including cyclists and pedestrians) between the roundabout at the top of the southbound exit ramp at junction 8 on the N11, and the entrance to the Bray Retail Park at Southern Cross Road.
Wicklow County Council have now completed Phase 2 of the scheme, which is Concept Development and Options Selection. The purpose of Phase 2 was to develop and assess a number of route options for the proposed Greenway. Phase 2 examined four different route options and, following an assessment process, has identified the Emerging Preferred Route for the Greenway.
The Emerging Preferred Route is shown on the plan below.
The scheme will now progress to Phase 3 Preliminary Design where the Preferred Route will be further developed. The Preliminary Design will be developed in detail to establish the land-take requirements and environmental impacts of the scheme.
Subject to approval, it is proposed to submit the Kilmacanogue to Southern Cross Greenway scheme for planning permission in Q3 2022.
