In 2003, a Barcelona Implementation Plan was developed for Co. Wicklow, which was adopted by Wicklow County Council in 2004. This plan contained a number of projects designed to improve access to Wicklow County Council services by people with disabilities.
Wicklow County Council’s Barcelona Declaration Steering Group consisted of a cross section of staff as well as representatives from the disability sector within the county. This committee began the process of making Wicklow Local Authorities and its services accessible for all.
The Barcelona Declaration Steering Group has been reconstituted and is now the Wicklow Access Group. This group will continue to guide Wicklow Local Authorities in meeting the targets of the Act and implementating the Wicklow Local Authorities Disability Implementation Plan, which was adopted by the members at the March 2008 meeting of Wicklow County Council.
